Field Report January 21, 2011

The 3rd - 5th grade class went to Gustavus dock on January 21, 2011. The weather was cold, cloudy, and rainy. We where there for an hour. We got some plastic (not too much). There was yellow plastic, black plastic, white plastic, a piece of a shot gun shell, plastic rope, and four pieces of Styrofoam. There was also a soda can, 2 pieces of rubber, packing from ramen noodles, a paper Cabela’s tag, fishing lure. We saw a lot of living things such as; sculpins, cockles, isopods, arthropod, and 2 sea anemones.

We have a question that we haven’t found an answer to. Is rubber plastic?

Hermit Crabs Invade! (Bartlett Cove)

Field Report 1-7-11

Breaking News! We didn't find any plastic on our last trip! We went to Bartlett Cove beach on January 7th, 2011. It was our first field trip in 2011 and the first time we didn't find plastic. Wow! Do you think we will find any on our trip next week to the Gustavus Dock beach?

Marieke brought a traffic cone-thing to look at things in the intertidal zone. It was like a mini aquarium. The weather was cold and windy, but not rainy. It was sunny, but on the beach we were on, the sun didn't shine. We were sad!
